FJ Carter Celtics were simply to strong for the Jersey Juniors in the Landsteinar League last week.
At St George’s Preparatory School sports hall at La Hague Manor, the Celtics ran amock winning 88-39.The eventual winners gave the U19s plenty of respect in the first quarter and worked hard on defence to create numerous fast breaks.
Celtics’ Chris Byrne and Ross Youngs mustered 23 points between them in the first quarter alone while Sam D’Avoine and Alex Menderson fought hard to keep the U19s in the game.Celtics slowed the game down in the second quarter as they played more set offences and again they were too big inside as they collectively continued to crash the boards ensuring that they scored on practically every offence. In the second half Celtic’s new signing, Richardas Paulavicius, from Lithuania, got into his stride with numerous blocks on defence and some nice moves to the basket at the other end.Credit must go to the U19s though as they continued to battle and they never allowed their heads to drop.
The spirit paid off as in the final quarter they clawed back the final 14 points of the game without reply!Top scorers, Celtics: Chris Byrne 38, Richardas Paulavicius 19, Ross Youngs 18, Mark Wilson 11.
U19s: Sam D’Avoine, Tommy Noel 10, Alex Menderson, Liam Barry 6.
