Jersey host Euro team pool event

CHANNEL Islands pool players will be rubbing shoulders with the cream of Europe over the next five days as the European Championships are staged in Jersey.

Over 300 travelling cueists will shortly descend on the Hotel de France as the annual eight-ball Team Championships are being held there from tomorrow afternoon.Jersey hosts the Championships for the first time and as the Channel Islands they will be fielding four teams - two men, one women and one junior - to take on the might of England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Belgium, France, Northern Ireland, Portugal, Spain and the Isle of Man.The CI’s five-man A-team comprises Guernsey players while the B-team is made up of Jersey players.Home players representing the CI are: Alan Humphreys, Gary Cooke, Adie Bougourd, Aaron Canavan, David Snell, Chris Melville, Rhy Brooks, Lisa Devlin, Christian Moriarty, Carl Dix, Clive De Sousa and Andy Stentiford.Team matches are being staged tomorrow afternoon beginning at 4, 6 and 8 pm.

The opening ceremony is at 2 pm.The playing format for each of the two groups is the same, with all round-robin matches the best of 15 frames.

The top four teams in each group will then play-off for a place in the grand final.Competition continues between 10 am and 8 pm Monday through to and including Thursday.
