A ‘GENTLEMEN’S agreement’ has been drafted to foster better working relations between the States and honorary police.
The so-called Memorandum of Understanding is the result of several meetings between representatives of both forces and the Attorney General.
It follows several reports of rifts between the two forces as they get to grips with new legislation which demands higher levels of professionalism from officers. The memorandum, which is due to be published soon, sets out specific areas of responsibility and deals with issues such as radio communications.
In particular, it covers on what occasions calls taken by the States police control room can be responded to by honorary officers, an issue which has been causing friction.
