Six men are jailed for drug-smuggling plot

SIX men were jailed by the Royal Court yesterday for their parts in a plot to supply 38.5 kilos of cannabis worth around £220,000 on the street.

They were arrested in May last year after a covert police surveillance operation.

The officers seized 151 so-called nine-bars of the drug, which were brought to the Island from Weymouth hidden in a hire car.Paul McEvoy (44), who was a UK prison officer living in Rugby at the time, was jailed for three years after admitting supplying 19 kilos of the drug.He was given a lower sentence because he had told the UK police about the operation.

He agreed to testify against his co-defendants and is now in the vulnerable persons unit at La Moye.Mark Ormesher (35), a bouncy castle operator from Liverpool, was jailed for five years after admitting being concerned with the supply of a class B drug.Paul Bartley (39), an unemployed man from Liverpool, pleaded guilty to the same charge and was jailed for five years.

He was described as ‘the money man’.
