JERSEY Scottish opened up a six-point lead over champions Trinity last night following an emphatic 9-0 flybe.
Combination Division I victory against Magpies at Springfield.
The under-strength ‘Pies were chasing shadows in the first half - during which they leaked seven goals - after some impressive play from their title-chasing opponents, who have now played two games more than Trinity.Former professional Mark Brown had an outstanding match for the winners as Rob Kearsey’s side raced into a two-goal lead inside ten minutes and half-way through the opening period it was 4-0 and the match was over as a contest.Three further goals before the break meant that Scottish were heading for their eighth three-goal £35 win bonus of the season and they completed the rout with a further brace after the break.Mark Brown and Ged McConnell both scored twice and there were singles for Ross Crick, Ryan Lumsden, James Scott, Jordan Docherty and Chris McNabb.Kearsey said: ‘We slipped up in the title race at this time of the season last year with a 1-1 draw against Magpies, but there was no sign of that happening again last night.
The lads were excellent.
They were sharp throughout and they moved the ball very well.
Their passing was slick and they scored some fine goals.’In fact, the first 45 minutes were probably the best I’ve ever seen from the team.
We’ve had good patches in previous games, but last night it all came together and Magpies copped the lot.’Magpies skipper Tony Carlyon said: ‘Scottish were excellent on the night and everything they hit went in.
We made a few errors and they took full advantage.
Full credit to Scottish - they’re a very good side.’There was a minute’s silence before the match following the death last weekend of Lionel Caradel.
