Insurance dispute over . . . for now

A DEAL has been reached to resolve the dispute over death and injury insurance payouts for the Island’s emergency services.

And both firefighters and ambulance crews have now withdrawn their threat not to respond to call outs to fight fires on ships at sea.

They had imposed this in protest after the payout cover was reduced.

From 1 January the cover was cut from ten times annual earnings to seven times yearly salary in the event of loss of life or serious injury.Without any consultation with either the emergency services or the Home Affairs Committee, the level of cover for all States workers was reduced in order to save less than £40,000 in insurance premiums.
