THE Jersey Sports Council has added a new category to its new-look annual Jersey Sports Personality awards after Highland Spring came forward with an offer of sponsorship.
The category is for achievement in sport for the disabled, and the winner will be presented with the Highland Spring Natural Mineral Water Shield at a dinner ceremony at the end of this month.Chairman of the JSC, Mo Le Mottée said: ‘They approached us out of the blue and offered sponsorship, which we are delighted to accept.
The first part of the deal will be the awards dinner.
We’ve never had a special dinner for the presentation of awards before, and we are delighted that it will be something of a special occasion.
The Council will then be getting together to think of various ways that the sponsorship money can be used to help sports in Jersey.’This is the first time that the JSC has been offered sponsorship, and Le Mottée said that Highland Spring wanted to become involved in this area, hence their approach. The awards will include Jersey Sports Personality of the Year, Team of Year, the new disabled category and the Sid Guy Memorial Trophy - the latter given for service to sport over a long period.Le Mottée said that the 43 clubs and associations affiliated to the Council have been asked to nominate sportmen and women for the awards, but the Council has decided to ask all Jersey residents to submit their suggestions.’If there are people involved in sport who members of the public feel are worthy of nomination , we would like to hear from them,’ he said.Nominations should be sent to: Anita Allchin, Secretary of the Jersey Sports Council, Wellow, 20 Pimley Close, Queen’s Road, St Helier, Jersey JE2 3GQ, to arrive no later than Monday 8 March.
