Eleven-year sentence for wife-stabbing is upheld

A MAN who tried to stab his wife to death has been told his 11-year prison sentence will not be reduced.

José Manuel Caboz (33) stabbed his wife repeatedly in April 2002 and walked away, leaving the knife in her back. But throughout his trial he denied that he was guilty of trying to kill her.Caboz was convicted of attempted murder on 1 October last year and this week he attempted to have his conviction quashed.

The Court of Appeal heard his appeal against the conviction on Tuesday, as well as against his 11-year total sentence, but found the conviction was safe and the sentence of imprisonment, with a recommendation for deportation, was fair.Sitting were Mr J P C Sumption QC, presiding, and Mr K S Rokison QC and P S Hodge QC.
