ONE of the Island’s top potato growing and exporting businesses has sold its Jersey Royal export marketing and growing interests to the new corporate farming company, Jersey Royal (Potato Marketing) Ltd.
Woodside Farm has been owned for five generations by the Gallichan family, three of whom are still working in the business, Woodside Farms Ltd, in Trinity.
Talking about their decision to come out of Jersey Royal potato exporting after so long, managing director Charles Gallichan said that Jersey Royal Ltd had approached his family business in January, and a deal had been reached after ‘tough but amicable and positive’ negotiations.’It was a very big and difficult decision,’ he said, ‘but as a family, we believe it was the right one - but it was a stiff fight between the heart and the head! It has been a very emotional five weeks, but I believe our business has a safer, stronger future because of it.’
