ST OUEN defeated St Brelade 1-0 at home last night to join Grouville at the top of flybe.
Combination Division II.
Ross Marquis scored the only goal of a tight game, 15 minutes before the break, to maintain St Ouen’s title hopes.
The top two teams meet for the second time this season at Le Boulivot on Saturday 20 March.St Ouen manager Steve Pallett said: ‘We didn’t play that well but we managed to grind out another win.
That’s what we’ve been doing a lot of, I think we’ve only played three good halves all season.’I know we are capable of playing better and hopefully it will come in time.
St Brelade gave us a very good game, in fact they finished the stronger because we had a couple of players returning from injury and we looked tired in the closing stages.’It was a good goal we scored and it came after our best move of the game.
There were three or four passes down the right then Peter Duffy put in an excellent cross into the area and Ross got on the end of it well to tap the ball into the net.’St Brelade assistant-manager Steve Proffitt said: ‘We battled hard and played some good football at times and a bit of luck and we’d have taken a point.
