Tennis:British No 4 to play for Jersey club

TOP England tennis player Alex Bogdanovic has signed to play as a member of the Caesarean Tennis Club’s National Club League side.

The 19-year-old Yugoslav-born player is ranked No 4 in Britain, behind Tim Henman, Greg Rusedski and Arvind Parmar, and 283 in the world rankings, and will, when committments allow, line-up with fellow Caesarean team-members as they try to improve on last year’s excellent results in the national competition where they again reached the final stages. The 2002 British National champion, he played for the Davis Cup team in Australia in January 2003 where he was beaten by Lleyton Hewitt in three sets but beat Todd Woodbridge.Non-residentsBogdanovic received a wild card into the Wimbledon Championships last summer where he was knocked out by unseeded Armenian player Sargis Sargsian in the first round. His inclusion for the Jersey club, while undoubtedly raising the standard of the team, will, once again, also raise the issues about just what constitutes a ‘Jersey’ team.Caesarean have regularly fielded non-residents in their National Club League side, gaining considerable success over recent years.
