JERSEY’S John Lowery - the Channel Islands’ last hope of success in the British Isles indoor bowls championship in Perth - crashed out of the under 25 singles yesterday, when he turned in a distinctly below par performance against Ireland’s Garry Kelly.
I couldn’t find a length from start to finish, and I’m so disappointed because I’ve been playing so well recently,’ said Lowery after his shock 21-7 defeat at the hands of a precocious 14-year-old schoolboy with a high-pitched voice. One excellent Lowery delivery mid-game saved a full house, and put a shot on the card to keep him in the hunt, but such heroics were few and far between on a rink that did not allow running bowls to be played.Kelly, from Ballymoney, meets East Lothian’s Wayne Hogg today for the British junior title, while his Irish colleague Jeremy Henry, the holder of the world outdoor singles title, faces England champion Billy Jackson in the senior event.
