Internet mail order company stops trading

AN internet mail order company in Jersey has stopped trading, leaving customers around the UK out of pocket.

Splashdvd.com, which is run by Toppers (CI) Ltd, has posted some information on its website telling customers that the company has ceased trading due to ‘financial difficulties’.It stopped as of noon yesterday and its website is now a blank page with a short explanation of the company’s situation saying that a creditors’ meeting will be held on 24 March, when liquidators will be appointed. The Rue des Prés-based company allows people to purchase DVDs over the internet at a cheaper price than they were available in the stores.

It is understood that the majority of their customers are UK-based and chose to shop with the company to escape the VAT charges. The Jersey Trading Standards Department has been inundated with calls and e-mails from worried customers in the UK, who are concerned about their orders.
