Le Riche Cup: Scottish slaughter Grouville

JERSEY Scottish cruised into their third consecutive Le Riches Cup final last night after a crushing victory over Division II leaders Grouville at Les Quennevais.

Two up inside five minutes, the Scots went on to record a resounding 8-0 success following an excellent team performance and a hat-trick from former professional Mark Brown.Ross Crick and Ged McConnell took their season’s hauls to 41 and 25 respectively with doubles, while their Island team-mate midfielder Dave Brodie, also put his name on the scoresheet.Scottish manager Bob Kearsey said: ‘We changed our system after First Tower beat us recently and we are now on a good run.

Having Ryan Lumsden and Mark Brown back has also strengthened us and we are playing really well.’We are creating lots of chances and we are taking them as well.

Mark’s first goal was the best of the lot.

He controlled the ball brilliantly as it came over his shoulder and turning in the same movement he drilled the ball home from ten yards.’Full credit to Grouville they looked to get the ball down and play but they were always chasing the game after going behind so early.’Grouville manager Ian Horswell said: ‘Scottish were awesome.

They played some excellent football and scored some fine goals.

Dave Brodie and Ged McConnell were superb in midfield for them.’Grouville utility player Jason Bingham is likely to miss the remainder of the season after he broke his right foot last night after just 12 minutes.

Clearing the ball from his area he kicked the underside of an opponent’s boot.

He was operated on last night and because of a gash on his foot he is expected to remain in the General Hospital for three days.Jersey Wanderers beat Sporting Academics 7-3 in flybe.

Combination Division I at Springfield last night to consolidate third place in the table.

Island captain Chris Andrews and former pro Chris Hamon both scored hat-tricks while Scott Young bagged the other.Accies, who led 2-1 before then trailing 4-2 at half-time, hit the target twice through under-16 Sean Doran and once through Tony Cardoso, the latter notching his twelfth goal of the season.Wanderers boss Martyn Stratford said: ‘It was not our best performance of the season but it’s another three points.

Accies worked hard throughout and full credit to them for doing so.’Accies manager Tommy Kyle said: ‘Our attitude and commitment was excellent and we had no players cautioned.

We made a lot of chances and had we taken a few and not had a couple of decisions go against us it could well have been much closer.’The Accies will be relegated on Saturday if they fail to win against St Paul’s at Clos des Pauvres.
