THE annual inter-insular cross-country championships take place at Noirmont Common in St Brelade tomorrow.
A total of 66 runners will be compete in a dozen sections with Jersey’s senior ladies bidding to retain their title while the men will be looking to regain the silverware after being defeated in Guernsey last March.There are more home junior runners this year and the under-13 girls’ team are all good runners.
Nicola Milner’s form is good but the team maybe be at a disadvantage as the majority of the girls are on the young side for the category.Ten-year-old Wade Le Marquand is Jersey’s youngest competitor in the U13 boys group.
The home team will be led by Ben Crossman and Piers Wilson, just two seconds separated them in a run last weekend.Eleanor Humphrey and Gemma Dawkins have been persuaded to run in the girls’ U15 race so that Jersey will have the regulatory four counters.
Nicolle Hubert and Charlotte Elis went for a practise run last weekend and they were pleased with their time of 15 minutes and 40 seconds.
Samantha Lee is Jersey’s lone runner in the girls’ U17s.In the boys’ U15 section, Jersey’s Toby Edwards has put in several runs in the hope of closing the 20-second gap on his Guernsey opponent from last year.Junior races commence at 12 noon with the women’s starting at 1 pm and the men at 2 pm.Senior men: Phil Ahier, Mark Allen, Ian Carter, Jon Coote, Christian Folliot, Bruno Francisco, Jason Lee and Damien Ahier.
Veteran men: Gary Broster, Nick Gorrod, Jeremy Keen, Philip Morris, Tim Rogers and Gerry Toudic.
Senior vet men: Bernard Arthur, John Cunningham, Paul Huddlestone, Peter Le Couilliard and Brian Parker.Senior ladies: Sabrina Carter, Lisa Fox, Joanne McGarry, Judith Russell and Jennifer Wallace.
Veteran ladies: Sarah Corcoran, Deborah Donaldson, Tracey Mather and Kieranne Sheehy.
