A ST MARY farmer, whose family have worked land in the parish for three centuries, is refusing to be beaten by Planning’s refusal to allow him to open a farm shop.
Mac du Feu, of Valley Growers Limited, said he would not be pushed out by anybody.
‘We will lodge an appeal, we’ll have to.
We’re not going to take no for an answer.’Mr du Feu’s application to turn a shed at Snaefell Villa, Rue de la Vallée, into a farm shop was turned down at Wednesday’s meeting of Planning’s application sub-committee.
It was refused on Public Services’ advice on grounds of road safety as traffic officers were concerned about vehicles using the existing entrance.Mr du Feu is baffled by the refusal as the entrance to his farm is not far from La Gigoulande Quarry which has heavy traffic going in and out throughout the working week.Deputy Hilton said the sub-committee were very sympathetic to Mr du Feu and would have accommodated him if they could, but they had to act on Public Services’ advice on matters of road safety.
‘We have to listen to what Public Services are telling us,’ she said.
