News from the Jersey Evening Post

Sky back down on VAT

THE Jersey Evening Post has won a major campaign by forcing Sky Television to reduce its charges to customers in the Channel Islands.

It is a huge victory for the Fair Play consumer column, which took on the TV giant eight weeks ago, calling its pricing structure ‘unfair’ and ‘clearly wrong’.Every customer in the Channel Islands will now be sent details of the new packages which will be available, offering either reduced fees or more channels for the money. At the end of January the JEP sent an open letter to the organisation’s chief executive, James Murdoch, asking him to review their policy of charging customers in the Channel Islands VAT-equivalent prices.

Late last night the JEP received an e-mail from the company which showed a forwarded copy of the expected response.

In it, they promise to develop a new subscription offer which will enable residential customers in the Channel Islands to receive a discount on their current channel package or upgrade to another package at a discounted price.
