Court gives probation evader a last chance

A MAN who has evaded probation for over a year was given his last chance by the Royal Court on Friday.

Serge Le Moellic (26) was ordered to complete 180 hours of community service for breaking the previous probation order. He was told at his last court appearance that he had come very close to a prison sentence for possessing heroin, ecstasy and cannabis.

But he failed to complete the probation order he was given, and spent more than a year avoiding the Probation Service and Viscount’s officers. He was arrested at his home by police last month as he was trying to climb out of a window.Crown Advocate Sally Sharpe moved for an 18-month custodial sentence for the original offences. But Le Moellic’s lawyer, Advocate Caitriona Fogarty, said that her client had turned his life around.

He was an extremely valued employee, she said, and his boss was in court to support him.She said that the defendant had failed to complete the probation order because it was interfering with his work and he felt that was more important.

He now realised, said Advocate Fogarty, that he had been ‘a complete idiot’.The Deputy Bailiff Michael Birt was sitting with Jurats Le Brocq and Le Cornu.
