News from the Jersey Evening Post

Scottish soccer aces are in seven(teen)th heaven

FLYBE Jersey Football Combination Division I leaders Jersey Scottish went goal-crazy on Saturday afternoon, hammering Jersey Wanderers by a divisional record of 17-0.

It was the second time this season that Scottish have scored 17 times in a league match, having defeated relegated Sporting Academics 17-1 at Les Quennevais last December.Scottish manager Bob Kearsey said: ‘It’s embarrassing for the league when the top team beats the third-placed team by such a margin.

It was a weird game of football.

Wanderers started well and I thought it was going to be a really tough game.’We didn’t take our foot of the pedal and I can only give credit to my lads - they were tremendous.’Wanderers manager Martyn Stratford said: ‘Anything that could have gone wrong for us went wrong.

It’s as simple as that.

I’ve said all season that Scottish are the best side in the Channel Islands and they certainly showed that on Saturday.’
