Novice wins CI darts title

NOVICE Sue McGregor and the vastly-experienced Dave Eusebini won the mixed doubles Carling Channel Islands darts championship title last night.

The Jersey pair defeated Guernsey’s Mick Hamon and Gill Le Cras in the final by three games to two and for their efforts they pocketed £300.Eusebini, a former CI and Jersey champion, said: ‘It’s a great result to have won, especially as Sue rarely plays.

This success will, hopefully, give me a bit more confidence for the men’s championship tomorrow.’McGregor, whose husband Nigel plays in the same White Horse team as Eusebini, said: ‘Dave was let down by his partner and I said I’d play if he couldn’t find anyone else.

He couldn’t so I played.

It was a bonus to win and the prize money will be nice.’I'm not really into darts at all, I’ve played a few times but not a lot.

I wasn’t nervous either because I had nothing to prove.’The beaten semi-finalists were also pairings from Guernsey, Mick Le Gallenc and Tracey de la Haye losing 3-2 against Hamon and Le Cras while Rob Davidson and Charlene Topley were beaten 3-0 by Eusebini and McGregor.Competition continues at the Metropole Hotel tonight with the ladies singles.

The junior event is from 2 pm tomorrow followed by the men’s singles at 6 o’clock.
