Restaurant plan for boatyard site

A NEW bar and restaurant will open on the site of Battrick’s Boatyard next year.

In the Licensing Assembly yesterday, Mill Holdings (St Brelade) Limited were granted a provisional bar and restaurant licence for the new establishment.

They were given planning permission for the two-storey site last year. The bar will face on to the quay with decking outside, and the existing road is to be re-routed around the back of the building. When the work on the existing Battrick’s Boatyard building - owned by Wally Battrick - is completed, hopefully by the middle of next year, the restaurant and bar should have a combined maximum occupancy of around 200 people. Both provisional licences were granted subject to confirmation by the Fire Brigade of the maximum occupancy, and subject to a condition that any doorstaff would be members of the Jersey Door Registration Scheme. Before the Licensing Assembly, Advocate Adam Clarke described the proposed building as a gourmet public house with an ‘à la carte’ restaurant upstairs.

He said there would be a terrace outside, and a balcony on the first floor. The application received the approval of the bench, after the Constable of St Brelade, Max de la Haye, said that he supported the plans, although he said there were concerns over parking.
