LEAGUE leaders and free-scorers Jersey Scottish will meet CI champions Trinity on Thursday with everything to play for following Saturday’s results.
Trinity, three points behind Scottish - their only Division I title rivals - beat St Paul’s 2-0 with goals from Island striker Jimmy Reilly and Paul Crompton, but the leaders kept pace with yet another handsome victory.Struggling Rozel Rovers were the Scots’ victims this time, losing 4-0 to goals from Ged McConnell, Mark Brown, Paul Duxbury and Chris McNabb.
Scottish are only eight goals off a century in the league this season, but Rovers’ Division I place looks more precarious still after Saturday.

Dean Godwin got the vital goal which puts third-bottom St Peter five points clear of Rozel, although they have played a game more.Wanderers, having shipped 17 goals to Scottish the previous weekend, were considerably tighter and a 1-1 home draw against Magpies helped consolidate third spot.Mark Holley’s goal earned Magpies their point, with Jon Southern scoring for the hosts.
Magpies are not clear of danger yet, but their eight-point advantage over Rozel should be enough, although the latter do have two games in hand.St Ouen will be in Division I next season and will undoubtedly be joined there by previous divisional leaders Grouville, who they beat 3-2 at Le Boulivot in Division II’s top game of the day.
Grouville scored through Richard Russell and Martyn White, but goals from one of their own defenders and Saints’ Scott Quarrell and Tom Richardson means they still require two more points to celebrate a quick return to the top flight.Given that third-placed St John are ten points behind after their 1-1 draw with St Brelade, Grouville can, at least, order the champagne.St John scored through Carl Eubank, with St Brelade’s effort going down to Olly Nightingale.Jersey Nomads’ Mark Herridge scored the only goal of the game against vastly-improved SCF, but the division’s game for the goal-enthusiast must have been the tussle at St Clement.
Despite Matt Scriven of the home side scoring a hat-trick to go with a single from teammate John Molloy, they were left pointless thanks to five St Lawrence scorers - David Fitton, Miachel Caetano, Ian Doyle, Dominic Zonta and Mark Ellis. In the other game in the division Beeches beat St Martin 3-1, with goals from Bob Bonney, John Jefferson and a Martin James penalty.Grouville moved closer to the Division I Reserves title without getting their boots dirty as one of their few outside rivals St Paul’s dropped two points away to St John.
Two goals from Ben Whitley and a single from Tom Pygott earned the home side their point.
In a mid-table clash St Clement beat First Tower, with Liam Whelan grabbing the only goal of the game.Goals galore in the solitary Division II Reserves match, at Le Couvent, with visitors St Ouen beating Rozel by the odd goal in 11.
Rozel’s Ben Doherty became the second player of the day to score a hat-trick and lose, while Andy Godfray and Lee Kent also got on the scoresheet for the home side.
Impressive, but not enough as Joe Murphy and Scott Samson both scored twice and that, added to singles from Peter Hewlett and Chris Beechey, gave St Ouen victory.Division C leaders Wanderers conceded three goals to St Ouen, with Dave Wright grabbing two including a penalty, but the red-and- whites still romped home 7-3 thanks to doubles from Jon Chapman and Jamie Smith, plus singles from John Searle and Jack McKenna.
Both sides chipped in with an own goal.Second-placed Rozel Rovers kept their outside hopes of the championship alive with a 4-1 win over Grouville.
William Baines, Tony Amorin, Sean Anderton and Karl Rockett chalked up Rovers goals, with Nelson de Freitas replying.St Brelade crushed Beeches 5-0, with doubles from veterans Paul Lindsay and Carlton McKain and a single by Paul Farrell. This was certainly the division for goals on Saturday, with a staggering average of just under eight a game - 38 from five games!St Peter scored eight of the nine goals in their match against St Clement, for whom Fil Gouveia scored.
St Peter’s men on target were Ian Tardivel and Pete Stockley with two each, Nigel Godfrey, Jon Welsh, Gary Gillespie and Paul Horton.Another nine came when St John met Sporting Academics, with Saints taking the points with six goals from Kyle Turmel (2), Gary Syvret, Wayne English, Mick Fortun (pen) and Steve Brennan.
