ISLANDERS are rallying behind a St Mary grower’s fight to run a farm shop from his home.
A fortnight ago Mac du Feu discovered his application to convert an existing farm building into a farm shop had been refused on grounds of road safety.
It is situated up a short track off Rue de la Vallée, a few hundred yards away from La Gigoulande Quarry which, he says, generates far more, and heavier, traffic than his concern. He is also baffled why no authorities mentioned any risk from his business during the five years he has been building up the farm door sales side of his business.’It used to be down in the road and we’ve moved it up to the yard.
For the last five years nobody has ever told us anything.
We had to move the sales up from the road because we were getting so much stuff pinched and the tin ripped off.
A few times we even found Co-Op stamp and nails in the money box and pieces of wire from when people tried to pick the money out,’ he said. The farm door sales proved so successful that he sought Planning approval to convert a small shed into a shop to get the produce under cover.
