Football:St John battle back to reach Touzel final

ST JOHN FC booked a place in the flybe.

Combination’s P W Touzel Memorial Trophy final last night after scoring three times in the final 20 minutes to beat St Lawrence 3-1 at Les Quennevais.

Trailing to a first-half strike from Dominic Zonta, St John hit back to win with goals from Derek Johnston, Aaron Travers and Graham Prescott.St Lawrence manager Ian Watts said: ‘We played very well in the first half and I thought we deserved our lead.

It was one of those games where I didn’t want half time to come because we were playing so well.’Dave Fitton had a great chance to double our advantage and if he’d taken it I don’t think St John would have come back from it.

David did everything right with his chance only to be denied by a fantastic save from Phil Kellett.St John assistant manager Chris Jéhan said: ‘It was a deserved victory overall and I would still have fancied us to have won had Phil not made that important save.

First half were we poor but a tactical change in the second half resulted in us being camped in their half afterwards.

The second 45 minutes was probably our best of the season.’Grouville and St Martin play their semi-final at Les Quennevais tomorrow with the victors opposing St John at Springfield on 22 April.
