Island business rallies to back rising race star

A GROUP of Jersey businessmen led by ex-Formula 1 driver and Jersey resident Derek Warwick has got together to provide financial backing for rising motor racing star James Walker.

Jerseyman Walker, who was educated at Victoria College, will make his debut in Formula 3 racing early next month.Speaking from Brands Hatch this morning, Mr Warwick said that he had been following James’s progress over the last couple of years, and had been introduced to him last year.Mr Warwick said that he had decided to become involved in what James is doing this year and got a group of people together, principally to put a budget together to help with the costs of motor racing. The group includes Warwick himself, with ex-F3 driver Graham de Zille who has business interests in Jersey, and Martin Bralsford of CI Traders, and they have put together a three-year deal which, if Walker performs to expectations, should see him through to the start of Formula 1.
