ISLANDERS have been casting their votes in the Senatorial by-election, with a very low turnout of voters expected.
One Constable said it was ‘like a ghost town’ at the parish polling station this morning, and that many people had told him they could not be bothered to vote.Six candidates are contesting the seat left vacant by the resignation of Christopher Lakeman.
They completed the hustings tour of the parishes in St Helier on Monday, and now Islanders have until 8 pm to make their vote count.Candidates Robert Brown, Terry Coutanche, Juliette Gallichan, Kevin Lewis, Dick Shenton and Robert Weston are fighting it out to finish the 18 months remaining on the former Senator’s original term of office.
All six have promised to be full-time States Members, and most have opposed the tax proposals from the Finance and Economics Committee.
