THE final placings in the Vowden Sports Road Race Series organised by the RBC Jersey Spartan Athletic Club were decided on Sunday, with the completion of a 25 km road race from Corbière to Gorey.
Veteran Phil Morris and senior Jo McGarry were first man and woman home in the race in which 40 runners sped along the Railway Walk to St Aubin and then along the coast to Gorey, with the wind behind them for most of the way.Morris ran another strong race, finishing in 1 hr 32 min 33 sec, two minutes clear of his nearest rival.He and fellow veterans Artur Pires and Rob Douglas set off at a fairly steady pace, picking it up along the Railway Walk to St Aubin.’Artur and Rob were with me for about the first 9 km.
I then managed to pull away and just focussed on trying keep up tempo,’ he said.
‘The wind on our backs helped considerably - the only tricky bit was around side of harbour when it was just an effort to keep going forwards.’
