IF Jersey Scottish are the best team in Jersey then they have to prove it and beat Trinity in a crucial flybe.
Combination Division I match at Springfield tonight.
Those are the words of Scottish manager Bob Kearsey who has told his players that all the goals Scottish have scored recently will count for nothing at the end of the season if they finish behind Trinity in the table.Kearsey said: ‘If we are the best team in Jersey like people are saying we have to prove that by beating the champions tonight.
I am a little nervous because we have not risen to the occasion when we’ve played Trinity over the past couple of seasons.’We’ve hit the headlines with our goal scoring feats of late but scoring 17 goals, eight and nine will count for nothing if we finish behind Trinity at the end of the season.’We are playing well, defensively and in attack.
I just hope we can play to the best of our ability tonight.
If we do that, then whatever happens I know we have given it our best shot.’Trinity have gone about their business quietly and they have continued to get their wins without the publicity we’ve had.
They are a dangerous side and we are well aware of that.
Both sides I’m sure will want to win the game.’Dave Brodie returns to Scottish’s midfield following suspension while Ryan Lumsden, Mark Brown and Ross Crick all face late fitness tests.Trinity, who trail the Scots by three points but have a game in hand, are a tough nut to crack having remained unbeaten in their last 37 Division I.Joint-manager Joe Morley said: ‘It’s another game with another three points at stake.
We’ve prepared well and like always I want to see us play well and give 100 per cent.’We’ve had the edge of Scottish in recent games but that will count for nothing tonight.
Scottish have been playing well but I’m not worried by that; I worry about how we play.’David Lloyd is back from injury and that’s a bonus for himself and Trinity.
He has not played since the last Scottish game back in November and it’s great to see him playing again.
He’s an influential player and an inspiration to those around him.’Ray Grant and Lee Jones face late fitness tests for the champions.Kick-off at Springfield is 7.30 pm.
