Police officers’ bravery marked

TWO police officers who rescued an elderly couple from a smoke-filled house have received a commendation for bravery.

Pcs Malcolm Hamon and Neil Stubbs received commendations from States of Jersey Police chief officer Graham Power on Tuesday after an incident in August last year.While on mobile patrol in Val Plaisant the officers spotted smoke coming out of a house.

Pc Stubbs found an 82-year-old man downstairs in a heavily smoke-filled room and helped him outside, while Pc Hamon went upstairs and escorted the man’s 84-year-old wife to safety.The couple, and Pc Hamon, were treated for smoke inhalation after an ambulance was called to the scene.
