JERSEY and Guernsey may act jointly to appoint the same person to act as an independent regulator of civil aviation for both islands.
A new post entitled director of civil aviation needs to be created in the Island to meet new international standards. In order to comply with the new rules, regulatory responsibilities currently undertaken in Jersey by the Harbours and Airport Committee and Airport director Mike Lanyon have to be separated from operational responsibilities.
Harbours and Airport Committee president Senator Len Norman said that a review would be conducted before proposals were formulated but it was anticipated that a proposition would go before the States in September. He added that Jersey and Guernsey might appoint a single regulator for the two jurisdictions.
‘There are talks ongoing with Guernsey to see if we can reach agreement that will suit both islands.’
