More ‘crisis talks’ for Emeraude

HUNDREDS of passengers travelling by sea to St Malo have had their travel plans disrupted as a result of engine problems with the Emeraude Lines vessel Solidor IV.

Meanwhile, the group formerly known as Save Emeraude has called a public meeting for Wednesday evening next week due to problems they say the shipping line is experiencing.Sean Power of the Southbound Transport Group has called the meeting because he believes the company’s future is possibly in crisis.Emeraude sailings were cancelled yesterday and this morning’s sailing to the French port was also scrapped.

However, passengers and cars were transferred to Condor Ferries for a sailing due at just after midday today.EnginesThe engines of Solidor IV were due to be tested this lunchtime and, if she passes sea trials, the vessel will return to service tonight.

She has been operating on only three of her four engines and for some weeks journey times have been at least two hours.Meanwhile, it should be known early next week whether or not the Emeraude flagship Solidor V will return to service on the Jersey to St Malo route.
