FROM today, shoppers in town will be able to see for themselves which shops are taking the VAT off their prices.
Special Jersey Evening Post Fair Play VAT Campaign posters have been launched and can already be seen in stores in St Helier.Businesses will be able to display a poster when they declare themselves VAT-free and prove that their prices are cheaper than their branches in the UK .They will display them in their windows to help residents and tourists to decide where they willget the best value for money.Consumer Council chairman Deputy Alan Breckon has given the campaign his backing and has urged as many stores as possible to become part of it.
He believes the posters will make a difference to where people choose to shop.
‘I fully support this campaign and really think that it could make a difference,’ the Deputy said.
‘The Jersey Evening Post is doing this in the right sort of way - like a slow dripping tap - because this will make more of a difference than a one-off big story.
