Football:Guernsey - another step towards Festival finale

JERSEY host Guernsey in the annual under-11 Primary Schools’ football inter-insular tomorrow morning at the Grainville Playing Fields in St Saviour.

And the hosts will be out to gain revenge for last year’s defeat in Guernsey, when the visitors were beaten by the odd-goal in three on a full-size senior pitch with full-size goals at Northfield. There has been just one goal between the teams for the past three seasons and it is expected to be equally close tomorrow morning.Jersey coach Mark De Luca said: ‘The Guernsey match is another step along the way to our big event of the year, the annual Primary Schools’ Festival at Easter.

The boys performed well in the first two games on tour recently but they didn’t do so well in their final two games.

They’ve worked hard on rectifying their tour mistakes at training since and they’re all looking forward to playing Guernsey.’To me the result is immaterial it’s about getting the best out of the players and them learning the game.

We have a superb surface at Grainville to play on and I’ll be concentrating on the boys continuing to play attractive football and, equally important, seeing them enjoying themselves while doing it.Kick-off is at 11 am.Jersey: Aidan McGuire (De La Salle), Richard Sinel (FCJ), Kamen Nafka (Grouville), Blake Derbyshire (St Luke), Toby Goar (St Michael), Johnny Ward (St Peter), Scott Johnstone (Rouge Bouillon), William Falle (Victoria College Preparatory), Harrison Jukes, Jake Baker, Jamie Bowkett (all St Saviour), Daniel Wilkes (St Martin), Jo Parkinson (St Lawrence), Kurtis Guthrie (Plat Douet) and Clayton Romeril (First Tower).
