THE Société Jersiaise has agreed at an extraordinary general meeting to include corporate membership in the composition of the society.
Three hundred letters are to be sent out to business houses with a brochure detailing the benefits of becoming a corporate member. The chief executive, Pauline Syvret, said that like every organisation, the Société needed extra funding at a time when capital was generating less income than before.
There was a need to maintain the Société’s headquarters building in Pier Road, to maintain the Island’s dolmens, to bear the cost of publishing books and of the photographic archive.
She continued: ‘For these and all our other expenses we need to generate more income, and so the decision of the meeting to provide the benefits of corporate membership for Island companies.’ The annual general meeting of the Société Jersiaise takes place on 22 April.
As the term of the current president, Deirdre Shute, comes to an end, an election for president will be held.
