Football:Scottish march on

JERSEY Scottish continued their remarkable season by beating Trinity in last night’s Wheway Cup semi-final at Springfield.

But in what was a scrappy and hard-fought win, a retaken penalty and a sending off proved to be the turning points of the match.Scottish, recording their 12th straight win, booked a place against Sylvans or North of Guernsey on 13 April at Springfield.

Last night’s game got off to a controversial start when Mark Brown was brought down in the Trinity box.

Ross Crick tucked away his penalty at the second attempt after Trinity ‘keeper Sean McDonald was judged to have moved on his line before saving the first effort. It wasn’t long afterwards that Trinity defender David Lloyd was sent off for a second booking after moving the ball before Scottish could take a free kick.

Scottish then went 2-0 up on 25 minutes through Craig Ferey, before Dave Le Roux pulled one back for Trinity with 15 minutes to go.Scottish manager Bob Kearsey said: ‘It wasn’t the prettiest of games, more of a battle really.

We knew this would be one of those games where we had to roll our sleeves up.

Trinity played well and it was a shame for them - and the game - that Lloyd was sent off, because I am an admirer of his ability.’Obviously it’s great to be in another final, and it extends our season by another game.’On the subject of the sending-off, Trinity manager Joe Morley said: ‘Technically the ref [Barry Breuilly] was right to send Dave off, but you are looking for some common sense from the officials.

‘Dave is a defender and he was getting himself back into position. But at the end of the day you have to accept the decisions of the referees.’Scottish: Jamie Brewster, Scott Devlin, Gordon Brodie, Craig Ferey, Chris McNabb, Ged McConnell, James Scott, Paul Duxbury, Mark Brown, Dave Brodie, Ross Crick.Trinity: Sean McDonald, Peter Smith, Ray Grant, David Lloyd, Darren Swanson, Paul Beckett (Jon Fitzmorris 45), Gerard Meadows (Barry Beatson 85), Lee Jones (Lee Blance 80), Dave Le Roux, Jimmy Reilly, Allan Brown.
