REVISED waterfront plans include a new central business district for St Helier on the current car park site, an open plaza next to Jardins de la Mer and a new commercial area west of the Albert Pier.
Waterfront Enterprise Board managing director David Margason gave a presentation on the plans at the Chamber of Commerce lunch yesterday.
He showed a three-dimensional computer generated model to around 160 heads of industry, and to Environment and Public Services Committee president Senator Philip Ozouf, who also attended. The plans include:1 A central business district on the site of the Waterfront car park which will include a square, twice the size of the Royal Square, and a large office development2 A village of leisure activities between the proposed site of the hotel and the Jardins de la Mer, around the proposed site of the Simply The Best television show3 A small hotel, commercial offices, gallery, public plaza as well as shopping on the former abattoir siteMr Margason told the audience: ‘Fundamentally, I think this is the right plan.It will be a series of joint ventures with a limited number of partners.
Some of these will be partnership arrangements whereby we provide land, but not capital.
Some areas will take a view on whether we provide capital as well, and I think that is likely to happen in a number of areas.’
