JERSEY is being asked to continue supporting the Island ‘adopted’ Kenyan doctor, Hezron McObewa, as he works with Aids victims in a remote part of the African country.
Dr McObewa has a long association with the Island, having been educated at Victoria College and gone on to qualify as a doctor last year at Nottingham University, as a result of sponsorship from Islanders. Now, he needs help to continue his work with a clinic established by a charity which he founded in 2001.The first target is to raise £15,000 for a four-wheel-drive vehicle for the clinic in the bush village of Miwani, and after that to raise the necessary running expenses for the clinic. An appeal was launched by the Island’s two Rotary Clubs at a fund-raising African-themed evening at the Jersey Pottery this week when £3,500 was raised. The two clubs - the Rotary Club of Jersey and Rotary Club de la Manche - hope to raise the entire cost of the vehicle by the end of June.
