Weekend sport in brief

VOLLEYBALL:Jersey’s men’s and women’s volleyball teams beat their Sarnian opponents in Guernsey on Saturday in the CI Club Championships.

Jersey men’s champions Kleinwort Benson Astros beat Goldridge Stone 3-1 (25-21, 25-13, 19-25, 25-21) while women’s champions Insurance Corporation Jets took on the Goldridge Stone women’s team and beat them 3-0 (25-16, 25-18, 25-20).

In the Junior inter-insular, Guernsey beat Jersey 2-0 (25-14, 25-15).

Motorsport:Ryan runs up a one-two at Silverstonei

RACING driver Ryan Parouty won the first race and finished second in the second race at Silverstone over the weekend to put him in second place in the Avon Tyres FF 1800 championship.

Liron swims to gold

MASTERS swimmer Jerseyman John Liron broke the 50m freestyle European record by one tenth of a second when he competed in the long-course event Dinard at the weekend, and won four gold medals.
