FOUR players will represent Jersey in the Commonwealth Table Tennis Federation Games in Kuala Lumpur next week.
Jersey have competed six times before, but the competition on 21-27 June, will be their first for 15 years.
Island champion Eugene Ellis is joined by Paul Marshall and teenagers Trevor Lefèbvre and Andrew Gallichan.
Jersey Table Tennis Association stalwart Geoff Reed is the team’s manager /coach.
He said: ‘With the exception of Eugene, all the players are going for the first time and I’m sure they will benefit from the experience.
There will be some strong competition there as well as teams that we are quite capable of beating.
‘It’s great for the association to be taking part again.
All the players have trained hard - they have been getting together three or four times a week recently.
I know we are capable of winning a few games but more importantly I want the young ones to really extend themselves and do well for the team.’ Jersey have previously attended the championships - in Cardiff in 1973, Guernsey (1977), Edinburgh (1979), the Isle of Man (1985) and Cardiff again in 1989.
Ellis competed in the 1985 and 1989 championships.
Geoff Reed has attended the championships six times as a delegate and a further seven times as a management committee member for Europe.
