PLANS to reform the public sector to save £20 million a year will go ahead with or without the co-operation of the Transport and General Workers Union’s 1,500 members.
Policy and Resources Committee president Senator Frank Walker has pledged to deliver the savings and efficiency improvements demanded by the public.
He has written to States Members to say that the five-year programme will be implemented despite the union’s decision not to co-operate.
However, Senator Walker acknowledges that without that co-operation, it may be harder to achieve the savings agreed by the States.
He said he was ’saddened’ by the union’s stance.
The union announced earlier this week that it intends to stage a public demonstration of its resistance to the proposals for change in the Royal Square on 6 July.
