THE dispute between the States and its manual workers appears to be worsening.
The employers’ side has now officially withdrawn its five-year guarantee of no compulsory redundancies and no contracting out of services, according to a letter sent to the Transport Union by States human resources chief executive Mick Pinel.
In turn, the union’s local official Nick Corbel is to issue a preliminary instruction to the 1,500 States and parish manual workers ‘not to participate in any way, shape or form’ with the proposed job reduction programme.
On Friday, Policy and Resources president Senator Frank Walker said his committee were determined to implement the change programme, which is designed to save £20m a year.
Mr Corbel said the instruction would be put to the Manual Workers Joint Council staff side for ratification.
