THE JMT site at the Weighbridge is to become an £18 million extension of the Royal Yacht Hotel if a proposed private development gets the go-ahead from planners.
If approved, the scheme will be one of the biggest ever private-sector investments in the tourism industry.
It has been devised now because buses are due to be moved from the Weighbridge next year.
The proposal, from the Royal Yacht Group, is to create 73 new hotel bedrooms with balconies, sun terraces and roof gardens in a new building linked to the existing Royal Yacht Hotel.
The link will be a transparent glazed five-storey atrium.
