Cricket:Island U11s tested by visitors

JERSEY’S under-11 cricket squad recently played two matches against visiting schools.

Against Fairfield at the FB Fields, they held their own to gain a good draw against more experienced opposition.

Fairfield batted first and scored 175 for 6.

Danny Kearns, Aidan McGuire and Charles Fricker each took a wicket and some keen fielding produced three run outs.

In reply, Dan Scriven (24), Nick Wildman (20), Aidan McGuire (27 not out) and Danny Kearns with 42 not out all batted confidently to allow the Island side to reach a total of 134 for 3.

At St Michael’s, Rose Hill School batted first and scored 126 for 6.

The Island side did well against batsmen who hit the ball very hard and wickets were taken by William Falle, Danny Kearns, Aidan McGuire, Michael MacCabe and Ryan Evans.

Jersey’s reply began steadily with Daniel Sidgreaves and Nick Wildman batting sensibly at first and then producing some good attacking shots.

Sidgreaves was run out for 26 and Wildman stumped for 23.

The Island side lost two more wickets to finish on 76 for 4.
