Veteran cricketers continue good run

OPENER Paul Robson steered the Channel Islands to a third victory in four matches in the Over-50s National Championship yesterday at the College Field in Guernsey.

Robson led from the front with a splendid 66 as the CI reached their winning target after restricting Devon to 166 for nine in 45 overs.

Steve Birkett and Mike Kinder both took two wickets for the CI but it was a team effort with good bowling figures all round.

Robson, who went with the score on 146, featured in half century partnerships with Birkett and John Taylor.

The winning runs, in a five-wicket success, came up with seven balls to spare.

The CI have three Group Three matches to play - away to Dorset, the Isle of Wight and Wiltshire on 18, 19 and 21 July respectively.
