Horrors! UK date for Opera House

TRACY Shaw and John Altman are to star in this summer’s home-grown musical from the Jersey Opera House, Little Shop of Horrors - and it will be the first of the Jersey venue’s own shows to go on tour.

Better known as their television alter-egos Maxine the hairdresser in Coronation Street and ‘Nasty’ Nick Cotton in EastEnders, the pair will portray sweet-natured Audrey and sadistic dentist Orin in the B-movie horror spoof about a giant talking plant.

Opera House director Ian Stephens said: ‘Although I say it myself, I think this is perfect casting for these two roles.

One of these two fabulous actors would have been a real treat for the Jersey audience, so to have both suggests we’re set for a mean green mother of a show.’ The professional production will run from 30 July to 28 August at the Opera House and will then transfer to the 1,600-seater De Montfort Hall in Leicester from 13 to 18 December, although not necessarily with the same cast.

Mr Stephens was manager of De Montfort Hall from 1995 to 1997.

‘I am delighted to be able to take our production to the UK, to show just what the Jersey Opera House can do,’ he said.

‘And for our first touring date I’m really happy to be going somewhere which holds many happy memories for me.’
