Portuguese star signs for St Peter FC

FORMER Portuguese Club player-manager José-Manuel Vieira has signed for St Peter Football Club.

The former professional is one of a trio of new signings for new St Peter manager Jon Trigg - all from the Portuguese Club of Jersey.

As well as the capture of impressive Vieira - also know as ‘Chalana’ - utility players Vitor Santos and Pedro Lopes have put pen to paper for the Western parish club.

Vieira netted 18 goals last season while Santos chipped in with nine.

Both players can play in attack or midfield while Lopez can play in defence or midfield.

Trigg said: ‘They are three nice additions to the current squad and hopefully I can add a few more.

We also have some promising juniors coming through so I’m confident we can have a good season.

‘Players like José are few and far between in Jersey, he has tremendous ability and he is a wonderful striker of the ball from free kicks.

I’m really looking forward to working with him as well as Vitor and Pedro.’ Defender Martin Paton has also returned to St Peter along with Martin King who will assist Trigg together with coach Dave Walsh.

So who will be in charge at Portuguese next season? Secretary Vasco Pinto said: ‘Nothing is settled, we have a meeting next week.

I really don’t know what is going on at the moment because I’m told Chalana wants to come back and Pedro signed his form thinking he was signing for Portuguese.

If Chalana wants to go I’m not worried but I’m disappointed to be losing the other two.

‘As I say there is a meeting next week and there are also some outstanding fines to be paid.

The players must pay them or we will report them.’ Pinto said that if no manager comes forward he will do the job himself.

Pinto added: ‘There was too much swearing last season.

I don’t like that and if I hear them I’d take them off if I was in charge.’ ‘Discipline is getting worse and I look to change that; I want the players to be happy and be together as a family.’
