We are not a tax haven, finance tells New York

JERSEY’S finance industry is telling New York audiences this week that the Island should not be regarded as a tax haven.

Around 20 senior practitioners are accompanying Jersey Finance’s first promotion to North America.

The main presentation and reception, entitled ‘Jersey - a vision for growth’, is being held today at the Intercontinental Barclay Hotel on East 48th Street.

On Monday the Island’s funds industry was presented to members of the Alternative Investment Management Association and yesterday it was the turn of trust practitioners to address the New York branch of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners.

Phil Austin, the chief executive of Jersey Finance, has stressed that Jersey’s role is that of a sophisticated finance centre with ‘an armoury of independently endorsed regulation, a mature and robust legal system and a 12,000-strong workforce dedicated to delivering high-quality financial services’.
