Business from the Jersey Evening Post

Success for New York promotion

THIS week’s promotion of Jersey’s finance industry in New York has been well-received, say organisers.

Three presentations were staged in the early part of the week and over 100 separate meetings took place between around 20 representatives from Jersey firms and clients and potential clients.

Speaking from New York yesterday, Phil Austin, chief executive of Jersey Finance Ltd, said the Island was already well-known on the other side of the Atlantic in terms of private client, trust and funds business.

‘I’ve been surprised at the level of awareness,’ he said.

‘We thought we were coming from nothing, but people are well aware of Jersey and its high regulatory standards.

The issue for us here is that people tend to use the Cayman Islands, because they always have done in the past.

It’s really about getting ourselves on their radar screen.

Mr Austin said a number of the American contacts had already visited the Island.

‘We’re talking about highly sophisticated professionals who understand the need for offshore services.

Over here they are currently looking for places that have high regulatory standards.

‘This is one of the biggest financial services markets in the world and we want to do more business here and learn more about what’s going on.
