Senator ‘trains’ 2005 candidates

POTENTIAL election candidates are being groomed by Senator Ted Vibert but he denies that he is launching a political party.

Six people, including some failed former candidates, met last night in a room in the States Building to begin their political training.

Senator Vibert says that they are ‘like-minded people’ and he is giving them speech training with an eye on the 2005 elections when he hopes there will be similarly minded ’social democrats’ standing in all 18 constituencies in the Island.

He says that does not necessarily mean they will be attached to any ‘party’ or that he is on the verge of creating one.

But he does not rule it out.

‘We don’t have a political grouping although there are lots of moves to create them.

This is a group of like-minded people who believe that everyone is entitled to a fair go and justice and equality for people in Jersey,’ he said.
