CASES of salmonella food poisoning rose in the Island last month - an increase believed to be linked to eggs.
During June, there were nine cases of one particular strain of salmonella compared to four during the whole of 2003.
Dave Edwards from Health Protection said the situation was not a major problem but it was important to address it before it reached that stage.
Although there was no conclusive evidence that eggs were causing the increase, the particular strain involved in the current problem was associated with poultry and eggs, he said.
No hotels or restaurants were linked to the increase and as the nine cases involved individuals it was likely they were occurring in families and therefore use of eggs, which was common, could be to blame.
